Gerunds • A type of verbal (word formed from verb) • Ends in –ing and is used as a noun • Examples: • Swimming exercises every major muscle. • Before running, I like to do some stretches. • Gerund phrases consist of a gerund, modifiers, or complements the gerund has. The entire phrase is used as a noun • Walking briskly is good exercise. • How much did the mechanic charge for repairing the car?
