  1. Open Research Data and Open Access publications: How do they sit in the Web of Science? Guillaume Rivalle, Manager, Europe solution specialists Guillaume.Rivalle@clarivate.com

  2. AGENDA • Open Science in the Web of Science • Open Access • Research Data • Recent and future evolutions of the Web of Science

  3. The Web of Science universe: More than 33000 unique journals 138 MILLION unique records in a network of more than one Billioncited references 18K+ journals 2715 OA WEB OF SCIENCE Core Collection CHINESE SCIENCE CITATION INDEX 1037 journals 1600 journals 44 OA KOREAN JOURNAL DATABASES FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY ABSTRACTS 2356 journals 43 OA 8054 journals SCIELO CITATION INDEX REGIONAL INDEXES CAB ABSTRACTS Science Citation Index Expanded Social Sciences Citation Index Arts & Humanities Citation Index Conference Proceedings Citation Index Book Citation Index Emerging Sources Citation Index 880 journals 880 OA 4464 journals INSPEC 3108 journals 29 OA HOSTED CONTENT RUSSIAN CITATION INDEX TOPICAL DATABASES ZOOLOGICAL RECORDS 4967 journals 401 OA OTHER FORMATS (Patents/research Data) BIOSIS CITATION INDEX 5346 journals 507 OA DERWENT INNOVATION INDEX There are currently more than 4000 Open Access journals indexed in the entire Web of Science 30M inventions, 54M patents MEDLINE 5500 journals 499 OA DATA CITATION INDEX 6,5 M DATA sets/Studies +90% of the data indexed is OA +9M proceedings, 1M Books/Chapters, 2.6M Chemical compounds and 1M Reactions

  4. The Web of Science universe: Slovakian papers 97K Slovakian papers in the entire Web of Science 88K Slovakian papers in Web of Science Core Collection 12% of recent Slovakian publications are in Open Access Journals (Green/Gold Open Access, as listed on https://doaj.org/)

  5. Open Access: Some metrics % of Documents Cited (2010-2015)

  6. Open Access: Some metricsCategory Normalized Citation Impact (2010-2015) World average

  7. It’s not all about journals. In 2012, we created the Data Citation Index. We made research data discoverable within our citation network

  8. Open Science Discoverability:THE DATA CITATION INDEX: 6.7M Datasets Data is the foundation of extensive and expensive research ACCOUNTABILITY INTERNET Funding bodies especially (NIH, NSF, ERC, etc..) are promoting open data and are making data sharing mandatory for researchersimpact New technologies have finally solved the issue of sharing big amounts of data and fostered the possibility to collaborate TRANSPARENCY seen as a source of more reliable knowledge and a source of more legimitate information Data is

  9. Open Science Discoverability:THE DATA CITATION INDEX: 6.7M Datasets As for Journals in the Web of Science, repositories are also objectively selected. Rejection rate is currently ~43% • Material must be desirable to the research community. • Repository must hold & provide access to data. • Funding information must be available for data. Data Deposit & Editorial Content • Added material has to be updated. • Provide statistics on deposited data. • Actively curate data in the archive. Active • Repository must have a steady flow of information. • Material must have persistent IDs, DOIs or other permanent ID. • Repository must preserve data or provide access over the long term. Persistency & Stability • Links from data to research literature must be present. • Materials must get citations in literature databases. • Availability of English language metadata Proof of data reuse

  10. Open Science Discoverability:THE DATA CITATION INDEX: 6.7M Datasets 337 repositories indexed since launch (Oct 2012) with an overall annual growth rate around 35% 39% are European repositories 90%+ of the data indexed is Open/Free 59 Social Sciences repositories

  11. Open Science Discoverability:THE DATA CITATION INDEX 6.7M Datasets Datasets are cited by litterature Dci is integrated within the Web of Science Universe Researchers, Universities, research institutions, receive citations through the Research Data they post in the repositories we index

  12. We are evolving. The Web of Science content has been considerably expanded in recent years. Now that we are Clarivate Analytics, the pace of these developments will accelerate.

  13. Expansion of content (reminder): In 2014, a Web of Science Core Collection subscription gave you access to 14000 journals. Today, a Web of Science Core Collection subscription gives you access to more than 22000 unique journals. 18K+ journals WEB OF SCIENCE Core Collection 1600 journals CHINESE SCIENCE CITATION INDEX 2356 journals KOREAN JOURNAL DATABASES Science Citation Index Expanded Social Sciences Citation Index Arts & Humanities Citation Index Conference Proceedings Citation Index Book Citation Index 880 journals SCIELO CITATION INDEX REGIONAL JOURNALS 3108 journals RUSSIAN CITATION INDEX Emerging Sources Citation Index 5500 journals MEDLINE +9M proceedings, 1M Books/Chapters, 2.6M Chemical compounds and 1M Reactions

  14. Emerging Sources Citation Index: 5200 Journals alreadyselected and in WoS 2500 European Journals 40% in Social Sciences 34% of the journals in ESCI are Open Access

  15. A FEW 2016 ENHANCEMENTS: • 50 savable Marked list • 5K records exports • Integration of ORCID’s and PMID’s for better search • The number of manually unified funding agencies has reached 800 • Funding information from Medline and Researchfish • The number of manually unified organizations has reached 6,500 • New author disambiguation algorithm • Article usage metrics • Web of Science Times Cited now visible on Altmetrics

  16. 2017 CONTENT INITIATIVES • Better Data Citation Linking in the DATA CITATION INDEX • Enhance links between WOS CC content and Data content to provide a more complete picture of the relationships between data and the scientific literature • Capture of e-first/articles in Press • Developing the capability to capture e-first/articles in press content is a strong complement to our increase in update frequency for the Web of Science • Continued Growth of the Emerging Sources Citation Index • Our plan is to grow ESCI from 5100+ titles to approx. 7500 titles (about 2400 titles) • Construction and Launch of an ARCHIVE for Emerging Sources Citation Index • We are adding 10 more years of depth to the Emerging Sources Citation Index. (2005-2014). Construction will be completed by October 31, 2017. Estimated size: 1.5M records.

  17. 2017: Web of Science Development Themes:Modernize Discovery, Analytics, and Personalization
