TTA WPT activities &Proposal of revised resolution Dr. Hyeonwoo, LEE Chairman of TTA PG709, TTA
Highlight of Current Activities(1/2) • TTA Wireless Power Transmission/Transfer (WPT) PGs developed 10 domestic Standards/Reports such as WPT use case & service scenario, definition of efficiency, evaluation method, in-band resonant WPT system and management for WPT • Followings are work areas within TTA • - WPT applications and services of ICT appliances' equipment standardization • - WPT of IT appliances' vehicles and mobile device standardization • - WPT technologies and measurements standardization to operate chips or cells • - Affects on human body Source : ISO 17465
Highlight of Current Activities(2/2) • TTA PGs actively participate in related international standardization activities such as APT AWG, CJK and GSC for the collaboration and interoperability on WPT • Particularly, in this year TTA PGs will review De-facto Technical specifications from WPC, A4WP, etc. for adoption as TTA Standards. • Also, TTA PGs will review the TTA Standard on ‘Management Interface for WPTMulti-devices (TTAC.KO-06.0304) (see Supplementary Slides)’ accommodating multiple power source from different technologies method for example resonance and inductive WPT. Source : ISO 17465
Strategic Direction • Interoperability among the WPT products in same application should be achieved by standardization effort to the maximum extent possible. • Sharing related information and collaborating among GSC members are important to encourage technology development as well as global harmonization. • GSC needs to offer opportunities to its members to discuss related issues including standard deveopment activities
Challenges • Product Diversification • - As market is increasing, each Alliances make the WPT Technical • Specifications which has different structure & protocol • Frequency/Regulation Issues • - International standards and harmonized radio frequency, EMI/EMC, and • SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) regulations are necessary for its effective • global solution deployment • - It is reported that magnetic resonant WPT products for portable device and • CE devices using lower WPT power are expected to come out in the market • in 2014 in some countries, which may utilize the current radio regulations • intended for the existing products. • - For WPT for Electronic Vehicle and high-power applications, the earliest • deployment is expected in 2015 as new regulatory discussions are • necessary to introduce
Next Steps / Actions • Sharing information in the CJK and other SDOs is important to achieve regional and global harmonization in WPT technology standardization and regulation. • It is time to prepare further development of global harmonization in technology and regulation to achieve maximum interoperability. • It is proposed to set up Task Force (TF) for developing GSC Report on WPT based on CJK WPT TR 1 including other SDO’s information and further global direction before GSC-18.
Proposed Resolution • It is proposed to modify Resolution GSC-16/34 taking into account current status that have occurred in the WPT standardization area • - to change the title of WCS into WPT considering • ITU and ISO’s terms • - to work together through GSC TF and report to GSC-18 • Attachment: Proposed Modification of Res. GSC-16/34
Management Interface for WPT Multi-devices (TTAC.KO-06.0304) • Overview • MWPMS(Multi-device Wireless Power Management System) is used to efficiently transfer wireless power to multiple power receivers. • MWPMS consists of an MWPC (Multi-device Wireless Power Charger) and one or more of MWPRs (Multi-device Wireless Power Receivers).
TTA PGs on WPT Chart • TTA PG709 work scope is based on cellular/low-power WPT • TTA PG309 work scope is related to EMI/EMC including WPT • TTA PG422 work scope is based on high-power, specially electric vehicle. • For avoiding duplication work among 3 groups, TTA wireless Power transmission PCG was established and now discussing how to reform and merge PGs.
