  2. Tarp System Use Scenario 1 Driver swaps a high side trailer loaded with material that can blow out. The load must be tarped before transport and untarped upon arrival at an OmniSource yard. • What are some of the dangers involved in • using the tarp system? • What should a driver do if tarp arms • become stuck? • What can happen if you use the tarp • system near power lines?

  3. Load Adjustment Scenario 2 While loading a lugger container at an account( tub partially on the truck) load shifts causing material to hang over the back of the tub. Material must be adjusted before finishing the loading process. • What factors should be considered before attempting load adjustment? • Is it acceptable to use a pole to push material back • into the container while partially on the truck? • What methods should be used to adjust material? • What is the potential for injury in this situation?

  4. Opening Container/Trailer Doors Scenario 3 Driver picks up a 40 yd container of car engines and transmissions at a customer account. When he arrives at the yard he goes to the pile to dump the load. • What is the potential for injury with this load? • What dangers are present when unlatching/opening the door? • What should the driver do if the door won’t open?

  5. Opening Container/Trailer Doors Continued • What is a safe method for opening a container/trailer door? • Once the door is open and secure should the driver walk back behind the container/trailer? • What dangers are present when closing a container/trailer door? Safe Zone

  6. Injury Prevention • Tarp System • Never use the tarp in close proximity to power lines • Beware of pinch points on the system • Load Adjustment • Beware of falling or loose material • Use caution when climbing on containers to prevent falls • Opening Container/ Trailer Doors • Keep body in the “safe zone” while opening doors • Beware of material that can fall from the door opening • Remember:
