Step 1: Pick Your Colors • Grab four different colors from the back • Pick one color for each of the groups wanting land in Southwest Asia: • The British • The French • The Arabs • The Jews • Put a line in whatever color you chose by the group on your map page
Step 2: The Hussein-McMahon Correspondence • Read about the Hussein-McMahon Correspondence • Color in the first map, showing land promised to an independent Arab kingdom, along with any land reserved for the British, French, or Jews and any whose fate still needs to be decided
Step 3: The Balfour Declaration • Read about the Balfour Declaration • Color in the second map to show the land promised to a future Jewish home
Step 4: The Sykes-Picot Agreement • Read about the Sykes-Picot Agreement • Color in the third map showing the areas that Britain and France would control, along with those reserved for independent Arab and Jewish states
Step 5: What Actually Happened • Using this map, color in the map on the back of your paper to show who controlled what in Southwest Asia following WWI
