Digital Literacy in the Elementary Classroom Photo Story 3 for Windows – Free download from Microsoft. (Sorry, no Mac version.) Example: 100 Day Collections with Photos http://vve.eanesisd.net/kmanzano/Pictures%202007_2008.htm
Import and Arrange Pictures Options: You can adjust: Color Levels, Black and White, Watercolors, Crop, Correct Red Eye, and Picture Rotation
Add Titles Change fonts, position on the page and alignment. Type in text that you want to appear on the slide.
Example: Watermelons in May Used KidPix and exported the pictures as jpgs. http://vve.eanesisd.net/kmanzano/Pictures%202007_2008.htm
Narrate Pictures Let the children record the audio for the page. You can preview, delete and rerecord as necessary.
Recording Tip: Use a microphone that plugs into the computer. The microphone on the computer will pick up background noise.
Customize Motion You can choose the start and end position. You can set the duration of the slide. It can automatically follow the recording time.
Don’t forget to SAVE your project along the way!
Slide Transitions 48 different ways. The favorites in my class are Bowtie, Flips and Page Curls.
Example: The Very Hungry Turkey (Modeled after Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.) http://vve.eanesisd.net/kmanzano/Projects%202008_2009.htm
Add Background Music PhotoStory has some built in music or you can import music of your choice.
Create Music To create the music from PhotoStory, select the genre, style, band and mood. Tempo and intensity can be selected to enhance the story. Play the music to see if it fits with the story.
Shows themusic The story can be previewed at any time. Indicates recording Shows slide transitions
Save for Playback on Computer The story will save as a .wmv file. **The file cannot be changed after it is saved in this step. The file can also be saved and converted to a format compatible with Ipods. One program that converts it is Cucusoft.
Example: My favorite! Here’s an original story based on the Black Lagoon books by Mike Thaler. http://vve.eanesisd.net/kmanzano/Pictures%202007_2008.htm I took photos of the children, printed them and the children drew a picture around them to go with the text. The pictures were scanned in as jpgs. * Fun ending – We emailed Mike Thaler about our story. He emailed us back with encouragement to write more stories and read more of his books! http://www.mikethaler.com/index.html
Other Ideas: Patterns: We took pictures with digital cameras. The children will record: I see a pattern on the ____ . Heavier and Lighter: A ____ is heavier than a ____ . Growing Beans or any Science Project: Take pictures of the lima bean plants and narrate. What other ideas do you have?
