BELL WORK Solve the following equations for x. 3x + 5 = 4x + 2 5x + 15 = 25 x = 3 x = 2
REMEMBER… Your scale must stay balanced. Whatever you do on one side, you must do the same thing on the other. The first thing we want to do is get all of the pawns (variables) on one side and all of the number cubes (constants) on the other. Remember to check your work.
PRACTICE SHEET #3 Is everything with a variable on one side and everything without a variable on the other? Our first step is to subtract 3x from both sides. This gets all variables on side of the equal sign. x = 7 Go back and check your work. Plug in 7 for each pawn. 3 (7) + 7 = 4 (7) 28 = 28
