Introduction • “Finding out you have cancer is like boarding a plane to Paris and landing in Iraq.” ~ Cancer Patient
The Navigators’ Challenge • To communicate what the patient needs to know and spur them into action • To communicate honestly with integrity • Listen and Understand patient issues • To gain their attention and trust • Break thru the clutter
Navigator’s Goals… • We have to get people to change when they do not want to change • We must empower them • We must establish a rapport with our participants • We must be able to spur them into action
Empowerment is a Process • Being able to connect with the patient, or being able to connect the patient to one of their passions • Looking holistically (the patient has cancer, cancer is not the patient • Believing in them • Accepting who they are and where they are in life
Remember…. That you hold the key to empower our participants… Unlock the door
I’ve learned…. That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart that understands Luke 22:32
