What is a tsunami? A tsunami is a series of very big ocean waves with very long wavelengths. When a tsunami occurs it kills loads of people and also wipes out a bunch of buildings.
How does it occur? A tsunami can happen when a volcano or earthquake erupts under water. A submarine eruption is also like an earthquake, forming a tsunami. Tsunamis can happen when a landslide occurs under water. Meteorites landing in the ocean can create the same result.
Where they occur and why? It is said that most tsunamis happen in Japan and in the Pacific Ocean. Tsunamis occur most often coastal regions so islands are the main target.
Particular events The largest tsunami in the world as said was 1720 feet tall happened in Lituya bay, Alaska. There was a second tsunami at 2:46 am in March 2011 in Japan. Two years before this happening , buildings were still being repaired from damage of the last tsunami.
