  2. Recognize the Reality of the Danger Learn to recognize that the danger really does exist. Ignorance & post-modern thought have resulted in a lack of discernment of truth & error, right & wrong

  3. Recognize the Reality of the Danger False teachers lead people into: Sensuality, Maligning the truth, Exploitation, Enticements, Bondage Matthew 15:14 - blind guides Matthew 23 - Woes

Recognize the Characteristics of the False Teacher - 2 Peter 2 Identify the danger and its source Heretical, Sensual, Blasphemous, Greedy, Exploiters, Daring Under judgment Self-willed, Instinctual, Stains & Blemishes, Springs without water, Mists driven by the wind, Arrogant Slaves of corruption

  5. Recognize the Characteristics of the False Teacher Deuteronomy 18:20-22 Deuteronomy 13:1-5 God tolerates false teachers as a test for your love for the LORD God - Deuteronomy 13:3 The testing faith will bring out maturity (James 1:2-4; Romans 5:1-8) unless you fail the test

Protection Against False Teachers Be aware that the danger is real Learn to recognize the characteristics of false teachers to avoid them & their influence Be diligent like the wise man and strive to know and heed Jesus’ teachings Be involved so that the “one another” verses can be fulfilled - cf Matt. 28:20

  12. Illustrations We are to love God and live for His God’s glory (1 Corinthians 10:31) Learn to be content (Philippians 4:11-13) Praying in Jesus name is submission to His person and will, not a magical incantation

  13. Example God preserved Noah in the midst of the most evil people ever - Genesis 6:5 Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord and was warned and instructed about the coming flood Noah remained faithful and obeyed the Lord despite temptations and pressure to quit

  14. Two Step Defense Against False Teachers Know the truth by knowing the word of God Be obedient to the truth – obey the Bible’s clear principles & precepts regardless of temptations or ungodly pressures
