Elements of a multi-year assessment plan • What assessment evidence will be collected? • When and how often will it be done? • Who will assess and reflect on the results? • How will results, implications, and related changes be documented.
Characteristics of a good Assessment Plan? • Anticipates how the results will be used for improvement and decision making • Was collaboratively created with input and discussion by the entire department • Is ongoing rather than periodic • Is systematic • Is manageable
Characteristics of a good Assessment Plan? • Over time, multiple data-collection methods are used • Is conveyed to students and the students understand their role in assessment • Leads to improvement • Includes an evaluation of the assessment • Describes the goals(s) of each planned assessment project
Things to consider when developing a multi-year assessment plan • Align assessment to the Program Review Process • Look at when courses are offered • Try to link course assessments to curriculum updates and the curriculum modification cycle (6 years) • Look at course relationships when developing the plan • Prerequisites • Co-requisites • Linked classes such as lecture and practicum courses • Course sequences • Align assessments with evaluations from outside accrediting agencies • Align assessments with funding opportunities such as VETA
