APAN Technology Area

This update provides information on the latest developments in the APAN Technology Area Working Groups, including IPv6, Measurement, Satellite, and Multimedia. Topics covered include IPv6 testbeds for multimedia applications, promotion of IPv6 connectivity, high-performance applications, end-to-end delay measurement, multicast media streaming, IP broadcasting over satellite links, and more.   4. IPv6 WG Charter • Promotion of IPv6 connectivity                Not only backbone but end hosts • Multimedia applications                VoIP, stream, etc • High performance applications                Grid, IPv6 access to supercomputers • IPv6 multicasting • IPv6 mobile support w/ security

  5. Measurement WG • About 20 people attended • Jung Sok Hyun,” End-to-end one way delay measurement in MPLS networks” • Will be writing the charter

  6. Multicast BoF • Organised by JongWon Kim • Three paper were presented. • Synchronised multicast media streaming • APAN-KR overlay multicast working group activity • IP Broadcasting over Unidirectional Satellite Link • Will organised the session again at next meeting

  7. Multimedia WG • No meeting only conference session • Election carried out • Chairman: Omar A. Abouabdalla (MY) • Deputy: Markus (AU)

  8. Satellite WG • Total of 7 people attended • 1 paper presented on “QoS over Demand- Assigned TDMA” • AI3 status from Shanghai meeting was reported w.r.t. Security, Network Monitoring, IPv6 over Satellite, Webcache • Future focus will be on satellite applications • Japan and Thailand partners expressed interest in Distance Learning and Telemedicine applications over the satellite network

  9. Summary • WGs will try to put up demonstrations at the next meeting. • More collaborative projects are to be expected.
