  1. Dimensions Out of Spec’s on Bottom Tray SN 005 MRB Meeting – 07 February 2005

  2. Description and reference documentation • Description of nonconformance • Conical Holes On Sides Flexures +Y and -Y Out of Specs in the x direction • Instances • Measurement Pre & After Static Test • Suspected Root cause • Assembly Error using reference Tolls • Reference NCR List • NCR n°374

  3. Bottom Tray Reference System • The Reference System on the Bottom tray has: • -Y Closeout Side (outer) as Plane Y=0 • Reference Holes N°8,7,4 as Plane Z=0 • Reference Holes N°8 as Origin X=0

  4. Measurement under CMM The X coordinates of side flexure +Y and –Y are out the nominal dimension of 0.250mm. This values exceed of about 0.100mm the maximum error expected

  5. Rationale • The Datum conical Holes used on the Assembly on the Grid are the 3 conical holes on the corner flexure, these holes are within tolerance • The error is not in the Z direction, all the Z coordinates measurements of the conical and cylindrical holes are within the Specifications • Tower reference system is different from the bottom tray reference system and can be not simulated on the bottom tray itself. The real error on the tower reference system can be worst or better but will be clear on the tower measurement

  6. Corrective actions • Proposal • Use as is • Proposed corrective actions • Control: • Verify reference tools in Plyform • Considerations • Comment: • The Error on the tower will be verified on the Tower itself because the tower reference system can be not simulated on the bottom tray, evenly it may be recovered with cones adjustment • Impact to inventory • Scrapping of this item reduce the material for the construction of Bottom tray from 18 to 17 item (1 used for EM, 1 used in tower 0)
