Week 3 Concepts and principles of (foreign) language learning and teaching- overview • To give students a general picture on the framework of teaching English: context and syllabus • By examining the setting and learners in the context, students will be able to set up an appropriate syllabus.
Week 4The Grammar-Translation Method, the Direct Method and the Audio-Lingual Method • To give students a general picture on the teaching models • Teaching models include The Grammar-Translation Method The Direct Method The Audio- Lingual Method The Silent Way Community Language Learning Communicative Language Learning Content-based, Task-based, and Participatory Approaches
Week 5 The child as a language learner • To help students understand the different development of child which is beneficial to language learning. • To help students understand a child as an English learner
Week 6 Teaching listening to young learners • To teach students some teaching skills when teaching listening • To provide a variety of examples of materials for teaching listening • Teaching demonstration will be carried out
Week 8Teaching speaking to young learners • To teach students some teaching skills when teaching speaking • To provide a variety of examples of materials for teaching speaking • Teaching demonstration will be carried out
Week 9 Mid-term exam • Written exam
Week 10Teaching reading to young learners • To teach students some teaching skills when teaching reading • To provide a variety of examples of materials for teaching reading • Teaching demonstration will be carried out
Week 11 Teaching writing to young learners To teach students some teaching skills when teaching writing To provide a variety of examples of materials for teaching writing Teaching demonstration will be carried out
Week 12 Teaching vocabulary to young learners To teach students some teaching skills when teaching vocabulary To provide a variety of examples of materials for teaching vocabulary Teaching demonstration will be carried out
Week 13Lesson planning Textbook selection and evaluation • To teach students to write a comprehensive teaching plan before they do the teaching demonstration • To help students on textbook selection • To provide different evaluation methods so students would be able to choose an effective assessment
Week 14Assessing young learnersWorking with parents of young learners • To helps students learn to assess their students fairly and effectively. • To highlight the cooperation with parents
Week 15Key issues in teaching young learners • To discuss and evaluate some key issues on English teaching • To teach students some useful and effective method on classroom management
Week 16, 17 Student Presentation • Students, two in a group, will do a 15-minute teaching demonstration, in which they have to demonstrate the teaching skills they have learnt
