  1. Welcome to Schoolmessenger App Teacher Initiated Messaging Back to School 2018

  2. SchoolMessenger Teacher Initiated Messaging SchoolMessenger App is the go-to communications app for parents, teachers, and students, and school leaders. With Teacher Initiated Message (TIM), teachers can reach out to parents and students with important messages and reminders.

  3. In this presentation… This slide presentation will walk you through the steps of signing up for your SchoolMessenger App account using the Web Interface. The instructions in this slide deck are for the SchoolMessenger App website. However, the instructions for the phone version of the App are the same. We will show you where to find the phone in the last few slides.

  4. Signing Up for your Teacher Account The first place to go on your computer is: go.schoolmessenger.com… …and click “Sign up”

  5. Signing Up for your Teacher Account 1. Enter your ownschool email address. If you enter a personal email address, you will not be able to access your roster data or create Groups Enter your School Email Address and Password 2. Choose a Password. Your Password must have: • at least 1 lowercase letter • one uppercase letter • one number • be at least 6 characters long Click the eyeball to see your Password.

  6. Signing Up for your Teacher Account After entering your School Email Address and Password, click Sign up

  8. Signing Up for your Teacher Account Go to you school email that you used to sign up. You will receive an email from support@accounts.schoolmessenger.com. Open the email and click on the link provided to complete your account registration.

  9. Sign into your Teacher Account Enter yourschool email address. 2. Enter your Password. You will be taken back to the Sign In Page

  10. Navigating your Teacher Account Click on the Menu icon at the top left-hand corner of the screen. You will land on the Messages page. Messages that have been sent to your phone number and school email address from SchoolMessenger Communicate, and from members of your groups, will show up here.

  11. Navigating your Teacher Account Click on Manage Groups. Now you will see the drop-down menu.

  12. Navigating your Teacher Account Teachers who have Roster data in SchoolMessenger Communicate will see a list of their class sections. These are what we call “Roster-created” Groups. Roster-created groups are indicated by an address book icon Click on one of your roster-created groups.

  13. Navigating your Teacher Account Guardians and Students who haven’t created a SchoolMessenger App account are “greyed-out” and listed as Unregistered. Users who have a synced SchoolMessenger App account using a registered email address have a colored icon. Roster-created Groups cannot be edited by the teacher. Teachers cannot change the group name or delete the group. Teacher’s also can’t remove or add participants and participants can’t remove or add themselves. You will see all of the Guardians and Students (Contacts) associated with that particular roster-created group.

  14. Creating a New Message Once again, click on the Menu icon at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Creating a message is a very simple process. You select the recipients your message will be sent to, designate whether their comments will be readable to others in the group, solely by the teacher, or not at all (comment not permitted).

  17. Creating a New Message A new dialogue box will open. You can choose to send a message to one or more individuals, or you can send a message to a whole group. To send to individuals, type in a name at the top to send a message to a specific individual or individuals from your Groups. (These individuals must have signed up for their own SchoolMessenger App accounts.) Then click Next.

  18. Creating a New Message Type your message in the Compose Message box. If you wish to include an attachment, click here

  19. Creating a New Message For attachments, you can drag and drop, or upload, the file you want to attach into the Select Files To Upload window

Creating a New Message Next choose from the following options: Everyone in the conversation can see all of the comments/replies Only I as the Teacher can see the comments/replies No one can leaves comments/replies Then decide if you want everyone in the conversation to be able to see each other’s names. Then click Create.

  22. Creating a New Message Now you will see your new message on your Messages page. To see the message details, click on the message in the list. You can send additional comments here.

  24. Reading New Messages If you wish to delete a conversation, just click on the Trash icon.

  25. Creating a New Group You can create Groups separate from your Roster data. Go back to the Menu and then click on Manage Groups in the drop-down menu.

  26. Creating a New Group Click Create a Group at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Creating a new Group is easy.

  27. Creating a New Group Type the desired Group/Class name, then click Create. A new window will open.

  28. Creating a New Group The next window that opens will give you the Group Access Code. Share this code with anyone you would like to invite to the Group. Only Users with a validated email address in the SchoolMessenger system will be allowed to join the Group.

  29. Creating a New Group Once you have created your Group, it will appear with the rest of your Groups on your Manage Groups page. You may now message anyone in your Group.

  30. Joining a Group Anyone who has a SchoolMessenger App account can join a Group if they have the Group Access Code. Go to the Menu and then click on Join Groups in the drop-down menu.

  32. Joining a Group A Join Group window will open. Type in your Group Access Code and click Join.

  33. Joining a Group The Group will now appear with your other Groups. You can leave the Group at any time by clicking Leave Group.

  34. Created Groups If you created a Group, you will see Users appear in that Group as they join using your Group Access Code. You may now message anyone in the Group as you would in a Roster-Created group!

  35. Remember… Only Teachers or designated district staff can Create or Manage Groups. Only Teachers or designated district staff can initiate messages. Guardians and Students can respond to messages from a Teacher or designated staff.

  36. Using the Phone App • Download the SchoolMessenger App from the Apple for iOS devices and Google for Android Phones. • In the app stores, the App is called SchoolMessengerEducation, and it has the blue logo you see at the right. SchoolMessengerEducation for Parents, Students and Teachers

Using the Phone App If you do not see your Roster Created Groups on your phone app, try logging in on the website go.schoolmessenger.com, then log on out of the app on your phone and log back in. If you do not see your Roster-created Groups, please make sure that you signed up for your account using your school email address.
