INTRODUCTION • PRIDE RFW Limited is a Microfinance Institution which was incorporated in November 2010 as a company owned by Promotion of Rural Initiatives and Development Enterprises (PRIDE Tanzania) with the view to take over the PRIDE Rural Microfinance (RFW) Program.
PRIDE RFW MISSION & VISION • VISION • PRIDE RFW LTD Seeks to become the leading rural based Microfinance Institution in Tanzania in terms of offering demand driven product range, quality service delivery and Outreach. • Mission • To provide access to demand driven,innovative and affordable financial services with a view to promote financial inclusion in order to improve, productivity,enhance incomes, create employment and improve the quality of lives of the rural target group in Tanzania.
PRODUCTS/SERVICES • PRIDE RFW currently offers two major types of products. • 1.The Agribusiness Value Chain Financing ( Horticultural products (Vegetables), Rice , Sunflowers, Sesame, Cotton, Dairy, Onions, Chickpeas , Grapes and Irish potatoes) through pre- existing producer groups • 2. Community based Financing ( MFL, IL, and BL) through field offices established at ward level. • These products are offered in the existing 12 branches (Iringa,Morogoro,Korogwe,Babati,Shinyanga,Singida,Ifakara,Kyela,Dodoma,Njombe,Usa River and Mwanza), and will continue being offered in the two newly established branches in Kahama and Moshi.
Agribusiness-Value chain Financing • Individual loans provided to market oriented farmers (Vegetables (horticulture), onion, Paddy/Rice, Sunflowers, Cotton, Grapes and Sesame producers for the time being), through pre-existing farmer associations. • The purpose of the loans is to secure and increase the value chain production.
Agribusiness cont……. • To be eligible, the groups recommended to have contractual relations with a private technical and or marketing services provider (TMSP). For example Dairy(TDCU/Tanga fresh, Cefa),Grapes (Cetawico), Vegetables ( Home Veg).
Agribusiness cont……. • The objective is to set up a triangle cooperation between the group, the technical and marketing services provider and the RFW, in order to secure the loans and improve the economic impact of the service • Others services providers (TMSPs) and farmers associations might be involved later on

ROLES OF EACH ACTOR PRIDE RFW LTD • Selects groups and producers in consultation with Home Veg • Finances producers based on information provided by Home Veg • Provide loans to farmers association members directly or through Home Veg. • Provides Home Veg with information required for deduction of loan repayment at source. • Assess with farmers and Home Veg the characteristics of the loan and adjust accordingly if needed. • Collection of loan repayments from Farmers associations or Home veg as per contract.
Roles of PRIDE RFW cont……. • Loans disbursed only to groups having signed a contract with Home Veg, including commitment of Home Veg to buy product at a predetermined known price. • Disbursements are made based on the plantation program provided by HomeVeg
Role of Actors cont…….. • Home Veg • Home Veg commits to buy production of clients under condition that quality standards are complied with, and deducts loan repayment at source. • Commits to provide adequate agronomical support to the producers financed • provides clients with inputs in kind financed by the loan, and advance cash for harvest loan • Provides information required for the setting of the loan amounts and lending and repayment calendar • Provides information to PRIDE RFW for the selection of groups and clients
Roles of Farmers Association • Produce crops/vegetables as per the contract with Home Veg. • Sell their production to Home Veg as per contracts signed, and comply with Home Veg technical standards • Screen each group/association member before inputs are extended to them by Home Veg. • Ensures that repayments are made on time as per contract and follow up individual members in case of misbehaviour.
Conclusion • Financing rural communities is an activity which need strong and committed institutions which can work in partnership to reduce cost and risks associated with agricultural production. These partners should maintain a close communication and collaboration to ensure information flow is adequate at all levels either to Farmers, Financial institution and the TMSP. Other TMSPs are highly encouraged to venture by providing services to the rural area of Tanzania where the economy of the country rest.
