The Supreme Court and the New Deal • 1935-36: SC rules that the N.R.A. and the A.A.A. were unconstitutional.
Roosevelt’s Court Packing Plan (1937) • FDR proposed to add 6 new justices to the SC to give him more control over the court. • His plan was condemned by the public and rejected by Congress. • Violated separation of powers.
Results of the New Deal • Increased the size and power of the gov’t. • Raised the national debt. • Gov’t should assume some responsibility for the welfare of its people.
Task • In teams, you are going to create a “New Deal” program for your school community. • Create a name and abbreviation for your program. • Write a 20-word summary of your program. • Create a poster advertising your program. • All work is to be completed by Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
