IFAD SL Workshop Sustainability-focused Sustainability has four key elements: • Environmental – productivity conserved/ enhanced • Social – exclusion minimised, equity maximised • Economic – poverty sustainably removed • Institutional – institutions continue to perform Slide 7 Principles of Sustainable Livelihoods

Livelihoods are sustainable when they: • are resilient to shocks and stresses • are independent of external support • maintain the productivity of natural resources • do not adversely affect the livelihoods of others Slide 8 Principles of Sustainable Livelihoods
