Reflection 1 A common topic among young adults these days is divorce. Many people rush into it not knowing the effects it has on each other or the people around them. I have never been through this so I have no idea how it is or what really goes on. My idea of divorce is a couple at ends with each other and no options on how to save the marriage. They come to the ultimate disagreement and decide that divorce is the simplest answers. I have had friends who parents divorced at young ages and they seemed to be some what normal. I have never really talked to anyone about how it felt to go through something like this and imagine its really tough and heart wrenching. I wanted to find out more details on what it is really like to go through one and what are the effects towards family, friends, and work life.
Psychological and Emotional Aspects of Divorce This article talks about the many of the common psychological and emotional effects divorce has on men, women and children. The divorce rate in the United States is the highest in the world. Over fifty percent of marriages end in divorce. I thought this article fit well with my topic as it explains the emotional aspect of divorce and gives a lot of detail as it pertains to each type of person in a family of divorce. The author gives health signs of stress or depression and talks about behavior people exuberate to get by divorce.
This represents the cycle taken to end a relationship in divorce. To complete the cycle every step must be taken.
Could you be 'infected' by friend's divorce? The topic here can answer my question on how divorce can effect friends and even cause them divorce. It’s said to be contagious and that the feelings can be transferred around and give other couples the impression they need to divorce. Divorce is referred to as a virus and can the reasons why friends can easily be persuaded is that they know someone who’s going through it. While talking with them they begin to find out the good and bad of divorce and can begin to implement action on themselves thinking divorce is the right answer.
People around us who can who can make divorce stick in our minds and influence a change, as you can see from this chart there are more possibilities for divorce.
The Cost of Divorce If the emotional and personal struggle of divorce isn’t enough to handle wait till you add costs into the mix. This article states how a divorce can be very costly and may cost up to $10,000. This can make the after math very hard to deal with and leave many in a bad situation after a divorce. If your looking to get an attorney involved expect to dish out the dough because they charge hourly and can be as much as $1000 per hour. Also keep in mind to not expect things to go your way by just getting an attorney, not everyone wins the case. When it comes to dividing assets or property people don’t always get 50/50 and may end with the short end of the stick. If there is a prenuptial agreement that can always help over ride the law.
Reflection 2 After reading several stories on divorce and getting some facts straight I can say that divorce is possibly one of the hardest things anyone can go through. There may be easy clean cut divorces but overall people’s emotions, money and life can become very intertwined and make it difficult to deal with. I have learned that the effects on children can scar them for life and make permanent changes in their mentality that can never be changed and make take years and years to feel like they are normal again. I learned there are many places out there for couples to retreat to in counsel and perhaps save the marriage and live a happier life. Many people turn down this idea because of stigma’s set in society on getting help from a third party. Overall a couple can only do what's best with the situation given and can not always make it work but to keep in mind the consequences.
