We like sexy history • Apparently, the upheavals were the sexy history of their time • They’re important • They “set in motion and chain of events that would transform the empire and change the future of British North Amera forever” !!!!!!! • Yet he describes them as a “brouhaha” and informs us that Nova Scotia, which had no rebellions, was the most successful colony?????
So, if all of the colonies had the same problem, why did violence break out in the Canadas and not elsewhere and what did it accomplish?
So, which is it? • Transform the empire and BNA? • A brouhaha? • Are these as significant as he seems to claim? • Does Will Ferguson “get” his Canadian history? • Begin by trying to understand what’s everyone’s beef. • Complete the organizer using the booklet.
Choose one of the following: • Write a paragraph in which you argue whether or not you think the grievances justified starting a rebellion. • Were either of the colonies more justified in rebelling than the other? Explain. • For each colony, select one social, one economic and one political grievance from which you will create a protest slogan that effectively summarizes the key causes of discontent in each of the colonies.
