  1. Great Thingsin the Book of Jonah Great Lessons from a Small Book

Most people familiar with the story of Jonah know about the “great fish” or whale that swallowed Jonah (1:17) • There is no question that the miracle of the whale is important as referenced by Jesus (Mt. 12:38-41) • However, there are several other “great” things in the story of Jonah that are worth our attention

  3. A Great Call (1:1-2) • The same great call (responsibility) is required of us today (Mk. 16:15; Ac. 8:4; 2 Thess. 2:14) • A Great City (1:2; 3:2,3; 4:11; Gen. 10:11) • The same great need and opportunity for soul-saving is found today (Rom. 6:23; 1 Cor. 16:9)

  4. A Great Flight (1:3) • The same great flight (neglect) is being made by many unfaithful today (Ac. 13:13; 2 Tim. 4:10) • A Great Wind, Storm, & Fish (1:4,12,17) • The same great accountability is demanded of us today (Mt. 25:24-30)

  5. A Great Resolve (2:1 - 3:3) • The same great determination of heart is needed among God’s people today (Rev. 2:5; 3:2) • A Great Message (3:4) • The same great message of judgment is needed today for all men today (Ac. 17:30-31; 2 Pet. 3:9-10; Jude 6)

  6. A Great Repentance (3:5-10; Mt. 12:38-41) • The same great works of change can be found among the sinful today (Lk. 24:47; Ac. 2:38; 14:1; 17:4) • A Great Mercy (4:1-2; 2 K. 14:25) • The same great mercy and grace of God is still extended to all today (Eph. 2:4; 1 Pet. 1:3)

  7. A Great Awakening (4:3-11) • The same great awakening to what is really important is needed among God’s people today (Mt. 6:33; Lk. 10:42; Col. 3:2)

  8. A Great Call to Preach (1:1-2) • A Great Opportunity (1:2) • A Great Neglect (1:3) • A Great Accountability (1:4-17) • A Great Resolve (2:1 - 3:3) • A Great Judgment (3:4) • A Great Change (3:5-10) • A Great Mercy (4:1-2) • A Great Awakening (4:3-11)
