Texas Tech Bad Weather Policy – Two Ideas to Increase Safety • Group Members • Amy Dodds • Brittany Meyer • Tracee Tomlinson • Lacy Wilson
Summary • We are suggesting to the Student Government Association (SGA) to consider proposing to the Board of Regents that Texas Tech University follow L.I.S.D’s current bad weather closing policy. This would promote the safety for all faculty, students, and residents of Lubbock.
Immediate Goal • Our immediate goal is to convince the SGA to sign and forward a letter to the Board of Regents recommending that T.T.U.’s bad weather policy be changed.
Background • T.T.U. rarely closes or cancels classes due to bad weather. • The majority of faculty and students are commuters.
Problem • Safety is T.T.U.’s least priority. • If T.T.U. is open during bad weather, you still are required to attend classes. If you are absent due to bad weather, the absence is still unexcused.
Solution • Primary Solution • T.T.U. should follow L.I.S.D.’s bad weather closing policy. • Secondary Solution • T.T.U. should revise their current bad weather closing guidelines.
Conclusion • We hope to accomplish our immediate goal of having the policy changed to L.I.S.D.’s. We are aware that this could be a lengthy process, but we are hopeful that the Board of Regents will realize our concerns and take them into consideration when thinking about changing the bad weather policy.
