This study examines attitudes towards a zero fisheries bycatch goal in New Zealand. Majority support adopting the goal, with notable demographic variations. Males tend to disagree more, while females are more agreeable. Age groups 40-49 are undecided, and those 60+ less likely to strongly agree. The research, conducted in June 2017, included 1,000 New Zealanders aged 18 and over. Respondents were sourced from Colmar Brunton’s online panel and post-weighted for demographic representation. Method Respondents were New Zealanders aged 18 and over. In total 1,000 New Zealanders took part in this research. Only demographic differences that are significant at the 95% confidence interval are shown. Respondents were sourced from Colmar Brunton’s online panel. The data was post-weighted so the final sample is representative of New Zealanders 18+ by age, gender, and region. Percentages may not add to 100% or nett scores due to rounding. % n=1,000 Fieldwork – 21 – 25 June 2017. The question was asked in a standalone online survey (i.e., not an omnibus).
Most New Zealanders think that New Zealand should adopt a zero fisheries bycatch goal Males are more likely to disagree with the idea and females are more likely to agree, while people aged 40-49 years old are more likely to answer neither nor. People aged 60+ are less likely to strongly agree with the idea, but their overall agreement (strongly agree and agree) is the same.
