Funded training programs under these solicitations will prepare individuals for careers in energy efficiency and renewable energy, with a focus on the seven sub-sectors defined in Section 171(e)(1)(B)(ii) of the Workforce Investment Act. (1) The energy-efficient building, construction, and retrofits industries; (2) The renewable electric power industry; (3) The energy efficient and advanced drive train vehicle industry; (4) The biofuels industry; (5) The deconstruction and materials use industries; (6) The energy efficiency assessment industry serving residential, commercial, or industrial sectors; and (7) Manufacturers that produce sustainable products using environmentally sustainable processes and materials. Additionally, the Department is interested in applicants contributing to our understanding of green industries and jobs that clean and enhance our environment. Initial research supported by the Department of Labor shows that there are ‘‘growth, enhanced and emerging’’ green occupations across a number of industries.
