New Year, New Opportunity For PAO Plans for Improvement HQ PAOs Will: • Lead daily Tag-ups with their Center PAO counterparts • Tag-Up discussions should focus on any written or video products coming from Centers (press releases, media advisories, web stories, slates, etc.) • Explore opportunities for Web stories instead of press releases • Keep Center PAOs informed of upcoming sensitive or controversial issues
New Year, New Opportunity For PAO Plans for Improvement Cont’d Center PAOs Will: • Submit written products to HQ PAO before publication • Inform HQ PAO of interview requests • Coordinate other activities and issues with HQ PAO as appropriate
New Year, New Opportunity For PAO Interview Requests • All media interviews with NASA employees need to have PAO present and recording the interview • PAOs should NOT put reporters directly in touch with NASA personnel
New Year, New Opportunity For PAO Written Communications • All press releases, NTEs, Web stories, etc. need to have a connection to the Vision for Space Exploration • Don’t Forget the Basic Ws: Who, What, Where, When and Why? Also add: Why Should I Care? • Stay away from technical jargon - any average Joe should be able to understand our written material
New Year, New Opportunity For PAO Creative Ideas • Challenge ourselves to think outside the box • Think about new and creative ways to reach new audiences • Leverage assets and opportunities agencywide
New Year, New Opportunity For PAO PAO Goals 2005 • Strategically communicate the Vision both internally and externally • Better coordination between HQ and Centers • Strengthen and reinforce the American public’s support of NASA
