Second Grade Review News You Can Use November 18, 2011 • A quick peek at our week… • In Reading and writing, we read several different books about Thanksgiving. We made connections and wrote about our family traditions. • In Phonics, we continued our helicopter ride into the Vowel Valley where we learned about the “ow” and “oo” sound. We talked about how “ow” and “ou” are dipthongs. This conludes our “Vowel Valley” trip. When we return from the Thanksgiving break, we will begin “Blending our Blends.” • During Math, we continued practicing measuring. We made turkeys that had to have feathers a certain length. We then re-measured the feathers and told their length in centimeters. We reviewed estimating and rounding, and making change. We finished our “Queen’s Bed” from our story of “How Big is a Foot” which helped us understand the importance of a standard unit of measure.
