  2. Bellwork • Discuss an situation where your emotions helped you make a decision. Use specific examples from that incident and what emotions played a part.

Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text in which the rhetoric is particularly effective, analyzing how style and content contribute to the power, persuasiveness or beauty of the text. • RI.11-12.5. Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the structure an author uses in his or her exposition or argument, including whether the structure makes points clear, convincing, and engaging.

  4. Objectives • Identify emotional persuasion in a speech. • Identify and evaluate forms of persuasion as rhetorical devices in historical speeches.

  5. Listen to MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech • Get in your groups and highlight all emotional persuasion in pink (#9 in your notebook)

  6. Exit Ticket • Choose 2 specific examples from the speech that you consider to be the most emotionally persuasive. • Write the two examples and 1 paragraph explaining WHT makes these examples persuasive
