University of Yangon Founded in 1920. Department of Law was one of the six original affiliated faculties* of the Rangoon University.(Now University of Yangon) * Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering , Faculty of Education.
Aims and Purposes of University Legal Education • University Legal Education should be a support to the building and safeguarding of the society. It should be closely related to the legal profession. In addition it should be supplemental to the profession and should also be based on the establishment of high moral character. • The chief aim of Legal Education is to produce lawyers and judges who have good morality and are faithful to the country. • The aim of Legal Education is to bring out the real truth. Law Lecturers themselves should also serve the interest of the State.
The Role of Legal Education • Learned Judges, Attorneys, Procurators and Lawyers are original products of legal Education. So, Legal Education plays an important role in the State.

First Step of CLE in Myanmar • On July 12 – 14, 2013, Myanmar BABSEA CLE with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted the Inaugural National Clinical Legal Education Workshop at University of Yangon, Department of Law.
The Second Myanmar National Clinical Legal Education (CLE) Workshop • It took placed during 27-29 September at the University of Mandalay included faculty members from 17 Universities and lawyers from three Mandalay Law Firms. • The workshop focused on providing practical guidance for university law departments across the country in developing and implementing CLE programmes.

Pro Bono Collaborations Sought • All Law Departments are seeking to have collaboration with Bar Association, Law Firms and Non- Governmental Organizations in particular of pro bono work such as organizational partnership, externship clinic programmes, legal training including mock trial, moot court and community teaching. In implementing the Pro Bono works, the help of Courts and Attorney Offices will also be asked.
