Answer the following • In what ways did the graphic displaying the languages spoken at home in Quebec display cultural convergence? • In what was did the picture of walmart display cultural convergence? • How might the newer group of immigrants impact future cultural convergence? • Think back to push/pull factors……. What would be pull factors for immigrants to Canada?
So what?!?! • Glad you asked….. • Canada has two recognized national languages. • English • French • Canada has a very rich and diverse cultural make up • Many believe this has led to Canada being a very progressive and accepting nation
Early influences • Indigenous peoples • Again numerous European nations explored and settled in the United States, however, three had the biggest influence / territories. • Great Britain • France • Spain
English influence • Well, we do speak English, or a version of it. • We jacked most of our constitution from English documents or philosophies • Magna Carta • Bill of Rights • John Locke
French Influence • Louisiana, home of the Rajun Cajuns! • This explains why LSU spells Go Tigers, Geaux Tigers
Spanish influence • Numerous forts / missions across, Florida, the Southwest and the West coast. • Texans be like….. • Spain be like…… “yea, we built it.”
