  6. Implementation of EDE5.1. Institutional structures • Inter-governmental committee of Cabinet Secretaries and Governors, chaired by the President • County Steering Group of state and non-state actors, chaired by the Governor • National Drought Management Authority: a State Corporation created to provide leadership & coordination, and the IDDRSI focal point in Kenya. • Review of all coordination structures in line with the changing context (devolution, re-organisation of government, resilience).

  7. 5.2. Programmes & projects 5.2.1 Infrastructure: • LAPSSET corridor project • Road infrastructure: Isiolo / Moyale; Rumuruti / Maralal • Rural electrification and renewable energy

  8. 5.2.2 Human capital: • National Council on Nomadic Education in Kenya • Northern Kenya Education Trust • Strengthening of health & nutrition services

  9. 5.2.3 Livelihoods & social protection • One Million Acre project • UWEZO, Youth & Women Funds. • Livestock marketing. • Hunger Safety Net Programme.

  10. Opportunities for improvement • Strengthening the systems for drought early warning and early response. • Increasing investment in the foundations for development: peace and security, human capital and infrastructure. • Enhancing the livelihoods of drought-prone communities through value addition, diversification, and reducing reliance on rain-fed production. • Harnessing fresh water reserves in arid areas. • Strengthening partnership with all our stakeholders, including the donor community, humanitarian agencies and other Member States.
