Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics Removable Prosthodontics Competency Portfolio Examiners are dental school faculty members who are chosen by their school, registered with and approved by the Board, and are trained and calibrated to conduct and grade the Board Portfolio Indirect Restoration Competency Examination.
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics Each Portfolio examiner will undergo training and calibration in the Board’s standardized evaluation system through didactic and experiential methods.
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics Calibration of Portfolio examiners will be conducted at least annually in conjunction with the usual and customary calibration course given to the school’s competency examiners.
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics All Portfolio examiners will be trained and calibrated to use the same rating criteria.
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics The purpose of the removable prosthetics competency examination is to assess the student candidate’s independent clinical skills in all aspects of a removable prosthesis from diagnosis and treatment planning to delivery of the prosthetic device and post-insertion follow-up.
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics OVERVIEW Twelve (12) scoring factors One (1) of the following prosthetic treatments from start to finish on the same patient. Complete denture or overdenture for a single edentulous arch (may be immediate or interim) Cast metal framework removable partial denture (RPD) Kennedy Class I or Class II for a partially edentulous arch
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics PATIENT PARAMETERS No patient sharing; cannot split patients between candidates Requires patient management ( must be familiar with patient’s medical and dental history) Medical conditions must be managed appropriately Case complexity is not a criteria
Portfolio Examination Removable Prosthodontics Scoring: Score of 1 is unacceptable (critical error) Score of 2 is unacceptable (multiple major errors) Score of 3 is minimal competence with moderate errors that do not compromise outcome Score of 4 is acceptable with minor errors that do not compromise outcome Score of 5 is optimal with nor errors evident
