Have you ever been slapped in the face, looked around and saw how many kids saw it happen, and no one say anything to you? Bullying is something that middle-schoolers encounter on most days of their lives. Being an upstander in a urban middle school is one of the hardest and riskiest things a person could do. If I were to try to convince a friend to become an upstander, I would encourage them to tell an adult, have them pretend that it was their sibling being bullied, and risk being a person who stands up for what is right with the known consequence of taunting and ridicule.
Apply to your writing • Reviseyourhook for your introduction paragraph for the yellow financial incentive prompt that you answered on Monday morning. • You have 5 minutes • Make it strong, because you will be integrating this into a final introduction paragraph at the end of the class
Introduce your topic • In order for the reader to understand what you are writing about, you must introduce the topic • You can’t hook them and then just present them with your thesis statement—you must give them a little information about yourself or the prompt or both
