OPTION #1: DATA COLLECTION NOTEBOOK Marble notebook/70 page spiral notebook filled with dated, recorded observations, experiment descriptions, and/or plans/processes related to your creative endeavor. (blog and/or scan documents if including in electronic portfolio) WHO MIGHT USE THIS TOOL? • Students involved in something related to art, music, dance, theater, etc. may consider this tool. • Students working in labs, conducting experiments may consider this tool.
OPTION #1: DATA COLLECTION NOTEBOOK REQUIREMENTS: • Observe a group or individual, have a minimum of 5 observations of the person or individual, with detailed notes regarding exactly what happened. Each observation should open with a focus question and notes should relate to that question. • In art, music, dance, theater etc., data collection must be dated with a minimum of 10 entries spanning 10 weeks of data collection. Sentence Outline Structure • Final Paragraph • prove the need for the research • thesis statement/hypothesis/engineering goal • Main Points include: • details from your SOURCES • direct quotations • paraphrased ideas • your voice throughout the paragraph
Points to Remember • References: DS evenly throughout, alphabetical order, 2nd line indented 5 spaces • Transitions: Write a clear transition statement to connect paragraphs. • Cite: All direct quotations/paraphrased information (Smith, 2005 ) or (Brown, 2007, para. 4) • Format: Every A needs B and 1 needs 2 for outline • Plagiarism: Turnitin.com will identify all work from another source and will result in a 0.
Source Weaving Source Weaving is the main skill demonstrated in the writing of a research paper. No more than TWO of the same source in a row. Never include pages in a row with documentation from the same source; this shows poor research and will result with a grade beginning at a “C”.
