WRITER TO WRITER A Session in the Gavilan College Writing Center
Getting to Know Each OtherA Session Begins • Welcome to the Writing Center • Get comfortable • Grab a cup of coffee or tea • Get to know the Writing Assistant
Key PrinciplesThere are Eight Ideas* Guiding Every Session * From the Academic Skills Achievement Program of CSUMB Keep in Mind • Our goal is to improve writers, not individual pieces of writing. • We respect and encourage writers to take responsibility for choices at all levels in their text. • We model problem-solving for writers. We readily admit when we do not know the answer to someone’s question and help them find answers for themselves.
Choosing a FocusMost sessions are 20 or 30 minutes and focus on one element in a draft
Planning What’s NextEvery session includes a conversation about next steps for the writer
Responding to the SessionWhat will you get out of a sharing your writing?Come to the Writing Center and find out.
