Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program • Collaborative effort between the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the New Jersey Department of Education, and the Office of Higher Education. • The shared goal of these three agencies is to ensure 65% of adults in New Jersey have a post-secondary degree or industry-valued credential by the year 2025. • Currently, only 50.2% of the New Jersey workforce meets that criteria.
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program • New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has invested $1.5 Million to assist high school and college students in obtaining paid internships. • New Jersey Department of Education has invested $189,000 to assist high school students in obtaining paid internships. • As of August 1st, we have approved 138 Internship applications; 124 college students and 14 high school students.
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program • Reimburses employers 50% of wages paid to new interns, up to $1,500 per intern. • Awards are available for up to 1,000 students, on a first-come, first-served basis. • Student interns must be enrolled in a New Jersey high school, college or university and are subject to their school’s internship eligibility requirements.
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program Internships must be in one of New Jersey’s key industries: • Advanced Manufacturing • Construction & Utilities • Financial Services • Health Care • Life Sciences • Retail, Hospitality and Tourism • Technology • Transportation, Logistics & Distribution
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program Employer Requirements • The employer must contribute to unemployment and disability insurance taxes in the State of New Jersey. • Employer cannot be classified as a government entity. • Employer must not have more than $750 outstanding with the New Jersey Department of Treasury.
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program School/College Eligibility • Must be a public or private educational institution authorized to operate in the State of New Jersey in accordance with New Jersey Department of Education and the Department on Higher Education. • The School/College is an intermediary between the intern and the employer and assists in the process.
Many Paths, One Future Internship Incentive Program New Jersey high schools, colleges, universities and employers may submit applications to LWDInternships@dol.nj.gov Employers seeking to hire interns should contact the guidance office and career placement center of their local high school, college, or university. Students interested in a paid internship should inquire at their school’s guidance office or career placement center.
