CFAT Funded Projects – 2006 Diesel Retrofit Technology • The City of Greensboro • Installed 20 diesel oxidation catalysts on a variety of dump trucks which reduce particulate matter pollution Truck Stop Electrification • Petro Stopping Center • Has dedicated 10 parking spaces at its facility in Mebane, NC to be outfitted with power pods for drivers to plug into rather than idle the diesel engine
Biodiesel Refueling Infrastructure • The Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains • Has purchased a 4,000 gallon B50 tank to be used in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and bumper stickers to publicize the Park’s biodiesel use • Metrolina Biofuels • Establish a public B85/B100 pump in the Charlotte metro area • Piedmont Biofuels Cooperative • Install a Point of Sale card swipe system at their Carrboro, NC B99 pump to expand coop sales • Carolina Biodiesel • Add a pump and POS card swipe system to their existing B99 tank in Durham, NC to expand sales.
What can the CFAT funds cover? • Alternative Fuel Vehicles • Covers up to 80% of purchase cost for government entities • Covers up to 80% of incremental cost of purchase for businesses • Incremental cost is the difference between and AFV and a comparable new gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle • Vehicles replacing an on-road plated vehicle • Refueling Infrastructure • Covers up to 80% of cost • Includes tanks, dispensers, signage, hoses and related equipment to store and pump biodiesel (B20 and greater), ethanol (E85), CNG, LPG, electric vehicle charging stations • Only alternative fuel can be dispensed or sold from the equipment for a minimum of three years after installation
What can the CFAT funds cover? 3. Diesel Retrofits • Covers up to 80% of cost of engine re-powering (including alternative fuel use) and after-burn technologies. Does not include fuel additives. • Examples: diesel oxidation catalysts, crank case filtration systems, diesel particulate filters • On-road and off road projects are eligible • Off road projects are limited to transportation related construction equipment 4. Hybrid electric vehicles (buses and heavy duty) • Covers up to 80% of incremental cost of heavy duty hybrid electric vehicles/buses (compared to conventional gasoline/diesel vehicles) • No light duty hybrid electric vehicles are eligible • greater levels of cost share encouraged (ie. 50%)
What can the CFAT funds cover? 5. Idle Reduction Technologies • Stationary Technologies must be located in CFAT eligible areas • TSE (Truck Stop Electrification) • ATSE (Advanced Truck Stop Electrification) A minimum cost share of 20% is required, greater cost share levels are encouraged • Mobile Idle Reduction Technologies • Include auxiliary power units, direct-fired heaters, automatic engine idling systems • Reimbursement based on the percentage of time the vehicle spends in the eligible area (up to 80%)
