Settling Down • focus on advancing careers • more people postponing marriage and kids until mid-30s • Marriage/Relationships • more likely to last with stability • Erikson- without intimate relationships you will be isolated & lonely
Marriage/Relationships • patriarchy - men dominate families • couple more likely to share in responsibilities • marrying for love was not always the case • choosing a spouse • generally marry people similar to you • roughly the same age (usually)
Divorce • Causes • “no-fault” divorce laws • easier to get a divorce? • increased economic independence for women • unrealistic expectations of marriage • financial burden • the standard of living of one person likely to fall • child support & alimony
