  2. Websites • Listed Below are some websites that you should use to fill out the remaining section of the worksheet(Cell Structure and Function-Plant Cells). Only complete this section of the worksheet if you have extra time!   3. Cell Ville- Memo • The mayor of Cell Ville has decided to eliminate one organelle from his city due to budget constraints. You are a member of your organelles committee, and you will lose your job if the city council decides to eliminate your organelle. Your job is to create an argument with your committee that will be presented to the cell council. If your argument is strong enough, the cell council will not have to eliminate your organelle, and you and the rest of your committee will remain full-time employees in the city. The next slide has tips on how to persuade the other members of the cell council. Only ONE committee will lose their jobs!

What You Should Have on Your Persuasive Argument PowerPoint Slide • Questions to answer: • What are the functions of your specific organelle? • What type of job do these functions resemble in a city? • Ex. Golgi Apparatus is like the Postal Service • Why is your organelle/job in the cell better than other organelles? • Does your job overlap with another organelle’s functions in Cell Ville? • Why would the city fail if your job was eliminated? • Provide 1 or 2 pictures that represent your job/organelle. • All of the requirements listed above should be presented on the last slide of the presentation. Please keep your work to a minimum of one slide. Other cell committees will be reviewing your work, and time is limited!!!! • The next slide is an example of an argument. Your work should be similar to this slide when you are finished. • Search the Internet for additional resources!

Example Slide:Golgi Apparatus • Like the Postal Service • Collects, packages, and distributes molecules in the cell. • Why the Golgi Apparatus is more important than YOUR organelle: • If you don’t have the Golgi Apparatus, then the products made in the cell can’t get to where they need to be. If the products can’t get to where they need to be, the cell will not function! If the Golgi Apparatus were removed from the cell, the cell would go on “strike.” The other organelle’s will not get the molecules that they need to function, and the cell will not survive. What is a city without the postal service?
