  2. Purpose • The purpose of the statistics is to illustrate the economic development within mutually dependent business areas, the so-called resource areas

  3. In principle, a resource area consists of 4 sub-areas • Primary industries, industries producing raw materials • Manufacturing industries • Auxiliary industries producing investments goods • Service industries

  4. Resource areas • Food • Furniture/clothing • Tourism • Construction/Housing • ICT/Communication • Transport • Energy/Environment • Medicine/Health • Other industries

  5. Delimitation of the resource area Food • Primary industries, food products e.g. holdings with pigs • Manufacturing industries e.g. slaughterhouses • Auxiliary industries e.g. cold stores • Service industries e.g. veterinary control

  6. Datasources/primary data • Employment statistics • Accounts statistics • Purchases and sales by enterprises • VAT payments • Central Business Register

  7. Variables • Number of enterprises • Number of full-time employees • Turnover • Exports

  8. Delimitation/threshold • Only enterprises engaged in a real market production • Enterprises with a performed workload comprising at least 0.5 man-years

  9. Perspective • Inclusion of the industrial classification of the national accounts statistics → gross value added • Incorporate the special accounts statistics for the agricultural sector with general accounts statistics → results before financial items, balance sheet, fixed assets, equity capital, annual investments etc. • Break down at regional level → analysing the trends in rural/land districts

Future important topics • Agriculture and agri-food system shall cover every stage of food production and preparation • Shift from a focus on farm commodities to a broader focus on the agriculture and agri-food system • As agricultural statisticians we need to bring our survey architecture in connection with business statistics in general

  11. Future important topics cont. • Unified system of detailed standard industrial codes which classify the main activities of each business entity TYPOLOGY→ISIC , NACE (2007 rev.) • Input-output tables and analyses- product balances • International classification regarding resource areas?
