Who We Are • OGYLA, formally called GYLOA, is a 501(c)3 Corporation dedicated to promoting growth in the sport and with the specific purpose of operating girls’ youth lacrosse leagues • League Development focuses on areas with high school participation but no youth programs; secondary focus on areas with no girls lacrosse at all (send in leads/contacts) • OGYLA provides the following services: • Rules • Coaching Education (via USL CEP) • Scheduling • Consolidated Billing for Umpire Payments • Jamborees • Play-offs • Conflict Resolution / Sportsmanship • OGYLA Coordinates with USL-OR Chapter, OGLA, and OWLUA

OGYLA Requirements • OGYLA obtains its general liability insurance by virtue of enforcing a standard requiring all League Members to demonstrate that all Players and Coaches must have valid USL memberships that will not expire at any point during the 2015 Season. • OGYLA will provide services including schedule management, umpire assignment, and dispute resolution to “Independent” teams who carry General Liability policies of at least $1 million and who name GYLOA/OGYLA as additional insured(s) • Some clubs obtain their own GL coverage via a school, Parks and Rec, or some other blanket policy • OGYLA will not provide services to Teams who are neither League members nor qualified Independents

  15. 2015 Focus: Growth • “Try Lax” Sessions • Regionalized • Target 1st thru 6th graders • 60-90 Minute sessions • Age and skill based • Minimal or no fee • Equipment provided • Rhino and HS Coaches provided

  16. 2015 Focus: Growth • U-8, AKA “Sunday Academy” • Mimic boys programs • HS Coach involvement w/ Varsity Players • Pay varsity players • One hour sessions on Saturday or Sunday • Games allowed towards end of season • All U-8 teams invited to U-10 Jamboree in 2015

  17. 2015 Changes: Fees The OGYLA has never charged a fee (except $2 per game scheduling fee) prior to this year, scheduling of games and assigning umpires has grown to point where we need paid staff in order to maintain. • Team Registration Fee or Per Player Tax • OGYLA Board to vote on by end of November • Teams notified by December 1st

  18. Scheduler • Single Point of Contact for all things scheduling (games and umpires). • Scheduling night as in years past, schedule done for you. • LOCK DOWN FIELDS EARLY • OGYLA will assign its own umpires in 2015.

  19. Rules & Regulations • All Players required to have “valid thru the end of season” USL membership. • Head Coach and Assistant Coaches all required to have completed concussion training. • Head Coach to have completed USL Level 1 or OGYLA provided clinic.

  20. 2015 Changes: Select • Select enters 3rd year, LaxNW partnership will continue. • Open Tryout, only one nomination per Gold team. (April 7th) • Sundays Only. • Will need fields donated. • “Do No Harm” to home club policy continues. • No Select on Easter and Mother’s Day.

OWLUA Overview • 501(c)4 Not-for-Profit • Affiliated with US Lacrosse (USL) • Officials (independent contractors) are USL members; trained and rated in accordance with specific USL guidelines • Leagues served include NCAA Division III (in-state teams), PNWLL, NWWLL, OGLA, OGYLA, private enterprises such as Lacrosse Northwest

Collections & Final Charges • Cost of officiating is born 50% each by Home and Away Team • Teams will be billed prospectively for expected charges based on a stable schedule [# of games x (Average rate + Average Fees)] • Collect all fees by March 25th • OGYLA Goal is two payrolls this year • OGYLA will ultimately reconcile with teams for the officiating resources (officials x actual rate + mileage) that they actually consume

Pre-Season • Become an Official and/or help recruit: • Send referrals (adults and juniors) to Katie Wicks at owlua.umpires@gmail.com • Alert us to target rich recruiting events • Forward OWLUA & OGYLA notices to students and parents • Classroom Training (6 hours for new officials) • 3 hours per night on two weeknights or 6 hours on a Saturday • Volunteer to host a training event • Field Certification at Jamboree (April 4th) • Go to new Rules Interpretation Clinic / Know the rules (Schedule TBD)

In-Season • Pay your bills on time • Provide maximum lead time on changes • Respect and understand any prioritization or rationing scheme for Assigning created or endorsed by OGYLA • Ensure coaches, players, and fans behave consistent with USL’s code of ethics • Don’t get sideways with OGYLA; OWLUA will support OGYLA-driven disciplinary actions • Avoid confrontations with individual officials, provide feedback to OWLUA & OGYLA or escalate via Grievance process
