Rationale • Last Program Change in 2006 – faculty changes, classes no longer being offered, new internationally-focused classes now available • IS Minor unsuccessful in attracting students (not awarded in past 6 years, only 1 student declared within Minor program) • Opportunity to reinvigorate IS Major – new Faculty Coordinator, adapt to international context, class availability, demand for Area Studies replacement • Chance to create more consistency between IS Major and Minor (terminology, themes, classes)

Updates to IS Major • Option A: International Politics & US Foreign Relations • Option B: International Economics & Development • Pol Sci 423 as core class in Option A • Pol Sci 337 as core class in Option B • Select 1 from 5 History Intro classes • Select 1 from 4“Techniques” classes • Separate electives list with 206 classes • Option A: International Politics & World Affairs • Option B: International Economics & Development • Option C: World Languages & Cultures • Pol Sci 359 as core class in Option A • Pol Sci 330 as core class in Option B • Select 1 from 6 Anthro/History classes • Select 1 from 10 “Analytical Techniques” classes • Shared electives list with 259 classes

Updates to IS Minor • Total of 35 credits • 14 credits of Foreign Language • No thematic Options • Pol Sci 203 required as “Analytical Tools” class • Separate electives list with 168 classes • Total of 18 credits • No Foreign Language requirement • 6 credits selected from Options A, B, C • Select 1 from 10 “Analytical Techniques” classes • Shared electives list with 259 classes

Impact • New students from Fall 2012 are subject to the new IS requirements • Students already intended/declared for IS program remain within the old IS requirements unless they choose to declare for the new requirements • New advising documents: - IS brochure - IS Major curriculum - IS Minor curriculum - Scorecards • CIE website includes both new and old curriculum documents http://www4.uwm.edu/cie/currentstudents/14/ Thank you for promoting the new IS program to your students!
