  2. Russia had the fastest growth rate of all of the Great Powers of Europe. • Industrial workers, worked 12 to 14 hours a day for low pay, in unhealthy, and unsafe conditions. • The workers had no avenue to seek change. Moving Towards REVOLUTION

  3. Rise of political parties • The Socialist Revolutionary Party was founded in 1901. • Reform movements evolve into formal, organized political parties. • Russian Social Democratic Workers’ Party, or Social Democrats was founded in 1898.

  4. Bolsheviks Mensheviks • Russian word meaning “majority” • Led by Lenin • Russian word meaning “minority” • Several other groups formed this party • 1905: Constitutional Democratic Party is founded The party Split in 1903

The political and economic theories of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, later developed by their followers to form the basis for the theory and practice of communism. • Method of societal analysis based on attention to class-relations and societal conflict. • Lenin did not agree with theses views.
