  4. Numbers can be incredibly useful,especially when visualised…

  5. And even more so when put on a map

  6. Numbers - e.g. used as indicators - play a key role in informing policy-makers

  7. Contrary to public belief, people like numbers

  8. Don't be scared about communicating numbers if they convey a message

  9. And don't be scared about communicating uncertainty – even if politicians don't like it

  10. But numbers are a means to an end – they will make an impact only if… …you tell a good story! illuminations.nctm.org

  11. Scientists often find it hard to tell a good story, especially when they include numbers But actually it is quite easy.
