On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) Media in the Development Framework of Tanzania: The Constitution declares freedom of expression and media.

On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) The MKUKUTA (Poverty Reduction Strategy 2) envisaging “to ensure an atmosphere of freedom of media”, and recognizing “access to information as a human right”,

On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) while the vision of the Information and Broadcasting Policy promotes a strong, diverse and plural media, with ownership in public, private and community hands, guided by a high degree of professional and social ethics in order to contribute effectively to the National Development Vision 2025.

On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) The Tanzania Media Fund's Goal is to: "Increase the Quantity of Quality Public and Investigative Journalism that better inform the public, contribute to debate and thereby increase public demand for greater accountability across Tanzania".

On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) The Tanzania Media Fund's Proposal as we present it to you today is the result of • a wide stake holder consultation since summer 2006 • Research Missions to Mwanza and Arusha • A Focal Group Workshop in November • A common and long term intention of five Development Partners to financially support the Fund

On behalf of UK Department for International Development (DfID), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Irish Aid, Danish Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands (EKN) Time Table of the Tanzania Media Fund: • Deadline for the Expressions of Interest for Host Organisations - 30th March • Followed by short listing and then invitation to submit detailed tender documents • A final decision on the Host Organization to be taken end May 2007. • Launch of the Tanzania Media Fund in June
