  2. Evidence Flags • What was your purpose for reading chapter 4? To recognize moments when Percy faced a challenge and then identify how he responded to the challenge Flags should represent: A Challenge that Percy faced. His response to the challenge.

  5. I can determine the meaning of words using prefixes and context clues • Prefix – a letter or group of letters attached to the beginning of a word that partly indicates its meaning • Think- Pair-Share – “What other words do you know that begin with the letters “pre” at the start?

  7. Connection • Mr. Brunner teaches Latin, and Percy studies Latin. • One reason people study Latin is because it helps understand vocabulary in English. • A lot of English words and word parts come from Latin. • Prefixes are an example of this.

  9. Independent work • Using Prefixes: Determining the Meaning of Unfamiliar Words • Read each passage from The Lightning Thief • Use your knowledge of prefixes, your prefix list, and context clues to help you determine the meaning of words

The questions you are about to answer are very similar to the ones you will see on the assessment.)
