  2. Common Cold • The common cold is most often caused by infection with one of the 99 known serotypes or rhinovirus.

  3. How you get it • Usually people get the cold by exposing themselves to cold weather. • Cilia, small hairs, inside of the nose transmit the virus up and back into the region of the adenoids, sometimes causing cough and sore throat.

  4. Treatment • There are some alternative treatments that include echinacea, calendula, ginger, garlic, and vitamin C.

  5. History • The name common cold came into use in the 16th century, due to the similarity between its symptoms and exposure to cold weather. • Benjamin Franklin suggested that colds were transmitted through the air. About 150 years later, his theory was confirmed.

  6. Prevention • Wash your hands • Avoid touching your face • Don’t smoke • Use paper towels • Control Stress
