Where is Spain located? • Spain is in the south of Europe. It is near Africa. The capital is Madrid but there is an important city called Barcelona. • Spain is between the Cantarian sea, The Mediterranean Sea and the Athlantic ocean. There are Spanish territories in Africa (Ceuta and Melilla). There are some Spanish islands in the Mediterranean called Islas Baleares and there is another group of islands in the Athlantic Ocean called Canary Islands. Spain Canary Islands Balearic Islands
Geographic Features of Spain • Doñana is a natural protected area situated in the south of Spain. It is considered to be the major ecological reservation of Europe.
Geographic Features of Spain Teide is an active but dormant volcano. It is 3.718 metres high and it’s approximately 7.500 m above the Ocean. It’s situated in the island of Tenerife. Teide is the highest mountain in Spain and the highest point in the Athlantic Ocean. The last eruption was in 1909. The 1706 eruption destroyed the town and the principal port of Garachico, and several smaller villages.
A famous Spaniard – Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Cervantes was a Spanish novelist, poet and playwright. He is one of the most important and influential writers in western literature. He wrote Don Quixote. He was born in 1547 and died in 1616. Don Quixote and Sancho Panza
Festivals Pamplona is the capital of Navarra. The most typical festival is San Fermines. San Fermines are celebrated from 7th to 14th of July. Every morning many people run in front of bulls. People wear a white T-shirt, white trousers, white trainers, a red neckerchief and a red belt. It is fun but many people are against San Fermines.
Festivals II The Fallas is a festival celebrated from march 14 to march 19 in some cities and villages of the Valencian Comunity above all in Valencia city. They are celebrated in honor to San Jose, patron of the Carpenters People make figures of carboard and they vote. The best figure wins and they don’t burnt it. • Tomatina is a festival that is celebrated in a Valencian town called Buñol. It consists in throwing tomatoes to the people. They throw more than 100,000 kilos of tomatoes.
Tourism in Spain - Madrid • Madrid is the capital of Spain. It is in the centre of Spain. It has more than 5 million inhabitants. It is the biggest city in our country and the third in the European Union. • There are a lot of monuments. The most famous in Madrid is “La Cibeles”, it is a fountain. • In Madrid there is a very famous art museum called “El Prado”. There are a lot of paintings. • In Madrid there aren’t any beaches but the landscape is beautiful.
Tourism in Spain The Alhambra is in Granada. It is one of the most important sights in Spain, it is a palace and fortress and the architecture is Islamic. The Giralda is the biggest cathedral in Spain. It is ninety five meters tall, it is situated in Seville and belongs to modern art.

Geographic Features of Catalonia The Pyrenees is a mountain chain. It is in the north of Spain, though it also forms part of France and Andorra. It spreads along 415 km from the Mediterranean sea to the Cantabrian sea. The highest summit is Aneto (3,404 m) Montserrat is the most important and misterious mountain from all Catalonia. It is a mountain with singular forms.
Climate of Catalonia The weather in Catalonia is good. It is a mediterranean climate. In summer, the days are very sunny and very hot. In winter the temperature is between 0 and 5 degrees. It only snows in the mountains. In spring there are many flowers and you can go to the beach.
Festivals in Catalonia I Sant Jordi is a tradition from Catalonia. It is celebrated on 23rd April. All started with a legend. The legend says that a knight killed a dragon to save the princess. He kills the dragon and from the blood appears a rose, a red rose and he gives it to the princess and they get married. That’s why every 23rd April men give a rose to women and women give a book to men. This is a very nice tradition.
Festivals in Catalonia II SANT JOAN • St. Joan is celebrated on 24th and 25th of June. • On 24th of June is the Eve. That night people light a fire in the street and throw firecrackers. In the cities of Catalonia people dance by the fire. • Some people go to the beach at night because it brings luck. • On 25th of June the families eat together, and as a dessert they eat St. Joan cake.
Tourism in Catalonia Girona is a fantastic place for a holiday. There are beautiful cities and villages and many forests. The capital, Girona, is one of the biggest cities in Catalonia. The most important monument is the Cathedral. Costa Brava is a coastal region of Catalonia. Costa is the Catalan and Spanish word for “the coast” and Brava means “savage”. The coast has many towns like Begur, Llafranc, Roses, Palamós… Here you can swim, go snorkelling or kayaking, sunbathe, dive, sail, play beach volleyball… The weather is good. Tarragona is south from Barcelona. There is a Roman Amphitheatre and an Aqueduct too.
