Social interaction Generally four year olds: • Play in small groups of 2-5 • Change friendships quickly. • Change activities often Parental involvement: • Play games • Do simply activities • Visit friends
Physical well being Generally four year olds: • Run, hop, jump, and climb • Potty train, blow nose, and sanitize • Handy with scissors, pencils, and crayons Parental involvement: • Give plenty opportunities for physical activities • Schedule bedtime and prepare healthy meals • Draw, color, and cut-out pictures
Basic math and reading skills Generally four year olds: • Describe colors, sizes, and shapes • Name things that go together • Count with words…one, two, and three Parental involvement: • Read books about numbers • Prepare recipes together • Plan a party together
Talking and listening Generally four year olds: • Talk! Talk! Talk! • Sing short songs • Follow simple directions and make choices Parental involvement: • Tell family stories • Repeat rhymes, songs, and stories • Take your child to the library
Summary All children: • Are curious and creative • Are unique • Will develop courage in the time All children learn: • At their own speed and time • Independence with duties at home • Different by hearing, seeing, and doing • Parents play a very essential role in their children’s learning experience.
