  3. College Admissions • Colleges are looking for well rounded students for their incoming class. • Students are looking for the best college they can attend • Student data-test scores and gpa-are important.

  4. Class of 2013 Information • % attending 4 year school: 73% • % attending 2 year school: 20% • % attending MN schools 55% Average ACT scores: • Composite for state : 22.9 • Composite for WHS: 24.

  6. Get Information Lots of Local Resources • National College Fair: Sept. 24 from 4:30-8 p.m. at Mpls. Convention Center • Talk to family members, teachers, friends • Visit with the 150 college reps who come to WHS • Visit with your school counselor

  8. College Selection Process • 2 year vs. 4 year college • Academic Rigor/Honors programs • Major • Geographical location and distance from family • Student/Faculty Ratio • Campus size • Urban/rural • Strongest programs/majors • Tuition/Financial Aid/Scholarships

  9. Apply to 4-6 schools • Safety School-You know, without a doubt, your student will be accepted • Good fit- GPA/Test scores match your students. • Reach schools-If everything went right, your student would be accepted.

  10. Admission Process • Apply online through the college’s website • Order transcripts from www.naviance.com. • Send ACT/SAT test results directly to college

  11. Get Organized • Get a method for organizing information sent from colleges • Use a spreadsheet for each college’s requirements and deadlines • Apply to college and apply for financial aid

  12. COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS To request an official transcript, go to the WHS website, click on Counseling-Career Center, and click on: You will see this: To log in: User Name (e-mail)= student ID number Password = your WHS computer login

  13. Transcript Fee • $15 fee for unlimited transcripts or • $5 fee for one transcript • After the fee is paid, we will approve your request and your transcript will be sent electronically. • Students who receive free or reduced lunch may send their transcripts with no charge. Please bring your letter from Nutrition Services that verifies your free or reduced status.

  14. Final Selection • Select a college. It is your choice…don’t settle for second best. 72% of students attend their first or second choice school. • Discuss college costs. • Important to graduate from college, not just attend. • 6 yr. graduation rate at 4 year school 57%
