END OF COURSE ENGLISH • Strengths • -9th grade English-the average scores for all students SV was 150, IB 161. For white students the average score is 162, Asian is 160 and females is 157 which are all at or above the Jefferson County benchmark of 157. • -10th grade English-the average score for all subgroups was at or above the Jefferson County benchmark of 153. • Weakness • -English 9 and 10-the most notable weakness is in reading comprehension.
Goal and Strategies to Address EOC Reading Weaknesses: Goal: SV-increase average benchmark score from 150-153. IB– increase average benchmark score from 161 to 162. • · Rich Text Incorporation—Teachers will incorporate rich texts high in complexity and rigor that often contain unfamiliar vocabulary and help students build background knowledge • · Answering Text Development Questions—Student writing will focus on answering text-dependent questions and writing to argue, inform, and explain by using evidence from sources. • Successful implementation of CCRS literacy standards in all Technical Subject areas
END OF COURSE MATH • Strengths • -Algebra I-the average score for all students was 145 this is above the District score of 144. • -Geometry-the average score for all students was 145 this is above the District score of 143 and at the state 145. • Weakness • -Algebra I-the most notable weakness is exploring quadratic equation functions with a 50% proficiency at IB and 24% proficiency at SV. • -Geometry- the most notable weakness is measurement/coordinate geometry trigonometry with a 35% proficiency at IB and 25% proficiency at SV.
Goal and Strategies to Address EOC Algebra 1 Weaknesses: Goal: To increase the Algebra 1 score for SV from 143 to 144 and the IB average score in Algebra 1 from 152 to 153. • · Rigorous mathematics tasks—Teachers will incorporate rigorous mathematics tasks that demand higher levels of cognitive thinking. • · Student engagement and achievement—Students will engage in peer-to-peer discourse, mathematical investigations and reflection.
AHSGE READING • Strengths • 83% of 2013-2014 seniors have passed the reading grad exam by spring 2013 administration. • Weakness • 17% (35 students) of the 2013-2014 seniors have not passed the reading graduation exam

Additional Needs Assessment Information GRADUATION RATE • * The graduation rate decreased from 92% in 2010 as compared to 87% in 2011 this remained constant at 87% for 2012 • * The graduation rate for special education students for 2012 is 51%, this is a decrease from 57% in 2011 • * The graduation rate for black students for 2012 is 82%, this is a decrease from 86% in 2011 • * The graduation rate for free and reduced lunch students for 2012 is 79%, this is a decrease from 80% in 2011
Increase number of IB students earning an IB diploma from 63% to 65% IB faculty awareness of requirements • All new junior/senior level IB teachers will attend professional development in their content area • All IB faculty will participate in an IB program PLC to better understand the IB diploma requirements. IB teachers will monitor students throughout 9-12 grades and provide necessary support. • IB teachers will develop an admissions/retention committee to provide support for students as they progress through high school towards a IB diploma. • IB teachers will evaluate and revamp their current RtI procedures to better support all students to help prepare them for successful completion of their IB diploma
School Demographic Information related to drop-out information and graduation rate data. Strengths: Student support and credit recovery options are available to all students as an alternate option. Weakness: Of the 2012 graduating class, 13% did not graduate. Graduation Rate Goal: 90%
Components that Positively Impact Student Achievement • All Freshman students are invited to participate in Freshman Orientation during the summer including: campus tour-information about campus activities-school expectations-instructions regarding schedules • Transfer students have a one on one orientation with a member of the counseling staff • All new teachers receive a master teacher mentor who is supervised by a building-level lead mentor. • Career and technical education works diligently to recruit and engage students in special populations. • A concentrated effort is made to identify students in need of extra support including but not limited to-health fair-eyeglasses-coats-school supplies-housing-baby supplies

Parental Involvement: • PTSO will share information with our parents using their established blog site that will allow staff to publicize school events and update information regularly. • New school and teacher websites will be used to update information regularly. JCIB and SVTA both have separate pages as part of the SVHS main page. • School-cast phone system will be used to share updates. • Progress reports will be sent home on a regular basis. • Online super-teacher recognition by parents. • Parent conferences are set up for students who are struggling academically or need support behaviorally.
Technology • Strength: The 2012-2013 technology survey reports that 63% of teachers report that they require students to use technology on a learning assignment at least 3 times throughout the school year., it also reports that 60 classroom teachers have an Edmodo account. • Weakness: The 2012-2013 technology survey reports that 37% of teachers did not require students to use technology on at least 3 assignments throughout the year.
Local Data Strengths • 2 students were referred to MEDC from the 2012-2013 RtI program, all of the students placed in Ex Ed services and 2 other students received tier III services. • In 2012, for SV students, 296 AP tests were taken. In 2013, for SV students, 359 AP tests were taken, which is an increase of 21%. Weaknesses • The percentage of SVHS students achieving AP qualifying scores decreased from 19% in 2012 to 12% in 2013.
Career Technical Strengths: • ·-93% of the students who took the Work Keys assessment for Reading for Information scored four or higher • ·-85% of the students who took the Work Keys assessment for Applied Math scored four or higher Weaknesses: • ·-Additional courses need to be offered to attract more females. • ·-Travel time from SVHS to SVTA limits the amount of time spent in class. • ·-75% of the students who took the Work Keys assessment for Locating Information scored four or higher
Additional Strengths • All SVHS newly hired teachers are assigned a mentor to assist in the transition to our school. • Of the vacated positions this year 79% were filled by experienced teachers versus 63% in 2012-1013. • Departmental meetings are held monthly to review data, instructional materials, strategies, and goals. • Lesson plans are posted weekly and are formatted to reflect effective instruction. • Teachers are valued as leaders and serve on several teams that provide PD onsite modeling effective strategies. • Students were rewarded each semester for being on the A or A & B honor roll with their name on a banner in the commons and a honor roll party. • Students are encouraged to "dress for success" on "Power Monday's" • Many teachers are available before and after school for additional tutoring for students.
Additional Weaknesses • 41% of faculty and staff were absent over 10 days during the 2012-2013 school year for non-professional reasons. • All students do not have a personal adult advocate
School Demographic Information related to Discipline Strengths: • During the 2012-2013 academic school year, total out of school suspensions decreased to 183 compared to the 652 of out of school suspensions for the 2012-2013 academic school year. The implementation of ISS impacted this total number. Weaknesses: • During the 2012-2013 academic school year, there were an average of 5.58 unexcused absences per student; 9.5 total absences per student.

Student Attendance Information Strength: • Overall average daily attendance is 93.75% during the 2012-2013 school year, this is an increase from 93.53% during the 2011-2012 school year. Weakness: • During the 2012-2013 school year there was an average of 5.58 unexcused absences per student; 9.5 total absences per student. Goal: to decrease the number of unexcused absences per student • implementation of advisor-advisee groups • implementation of a management protocol by the assistant principals
